...Interlude... ...Horror Preview Contest No. 4...

In the April 1974 issue of Psycho No. 18, the “Archaic” one continued a feature called the “shudder” Horror Preview Contest, in which he once again asked readers to fill in the blank word balloons. 5 winners would get an advance copy of Psycho No. 19 for their efforts. Well, here we are, 37 years later, and little Richie Arndt’s “choke” stab at this second entry once again showed up in my inbox. I guess Richie thought it to be as excellent an entry (as did I) as the previous one he sent me from the March 1974 issue of Psycho No. 17 was one of the winners. And so, once again with no further ado, lettered up by yours truly and presented for your pleasure is Richard’s one page story “The Gnawing Macabre”. Truly gruesome stuff and most definitely a modern Skywald Horror-Mood classic. …Enjoy…

...A Skywald Horror-Mood Classic... ...Daughter Of Darkness...

This next little gem appeared in Psycho No. 24, the last issue of Psycho and the last Skywald Horror-Mood mag ever published. ‘Daughter Of Darkness’ featured the first Skywald collaborative team appearance of then wife and husband Joan and Maelo Cintron, with Joan providing the script and Maelo supplying the art. Maelo is in top form here with his lavish blend of line and wash work and the story has a nice ‘shaken not stirred’, sweet n sour twist ending. Truly and most definitely a Skywald Horror-Mood classic. …Enjoy…

...Interlude... ...Horror Preview Contest No. 3...

In the March 1974 issue of Psycho No. 17, the “Archaic” one began a feature called the “shudder” Horror Preview Contest, in which he asked readers to fill in the blank word balloons. The winners would get an advance copy of an upcoming Horror-Mood issue for their efforts. Well, here we are, 37 years later, and little Richie J Arndt’s “choke” stab at this finally showed up in my inbox. I found it to be an excellent entry, and so with no further ado, lettered up by yours truly and presented for your pleasure is Richard’s one page story 'Blood Runs Deep'. Truly a tongue in cheek tale and sure to become a modern Skywald Horror-Mood classic. …Enjoy…

P.S. Now, Richard, about that advance copy of an upcoming Horror-Mood issue…

...A Skywald Horror-Mood Classic... ...The Comics Macabre...

‘The Comics Macabre’ is another one of the 10 most essential Skywald Horror-Mood classics by “Archaic” Al Hewetson. “Macabre” Maelo Cintron illustrates this story which features characters based on Al Hewetson, Maelo Cintron, Pablo Marcos, Herschel Waldman, Dr. Fredric Wertham (author of ‘The Seduction Of The Innocent’), and Len Darvin (then president of the Comics Code Authority). Hewetson is the publisher that every one is waiting to see. Cintron is the artist with the portfolio who is let in to see Hewetson first. Marcos is the artist who falls asleep and is presumed (well that would be telling). Waldman is the man who asks if Marcos is asleep, and Wertham and Darvin are the two older gentlemen. The story takes place in the Skywald offices and features Skywald characters. Truly a gruesome tongue in cheek tale and most definitely a Skywald Horror-Mood classic. …Enjoy…
